Artist...Rafael Casal

Rafael Casal is a poet, a wordsmith, a rapper, a lyricist and whatever other forms u can think to describe him. Point blank, he's an artist. I first got wind of him watching Def Poetry and he delivered words that just blew me away and from then on I have been a die hard fan. His way with words is unbelievable, as he so meticulously crafts vivid imagery in a way that he does so easily that it seems the feat must be effortless to him. One of my favorite pieces that he wrote is "Barbie & Ken 101" which is just ILL. I just picked up his LP 'As Good As Your Word' which is also ILL. He's definitely an artist that I love to keep up with and eagerly anticipate much more new things from.

BRAVE New Voices

DOPE! When I say DOPE I MEAN IT!!! OK Now I was geeked when Russell Simmons unveiled Def Poety, Now this!! Man look, If there is an art from that I can just say touches my soul so deeply, it is definitely Spoken Word, Slam Poetry, Poetry, whateva u wanna call it! Words are so beautiful, used to describe, and evoke meaning from just simple syllables, its amazing to me. Now this Show, being that its young people makes it all the more Dope! Young Poets, with young, fresh passion, I love it. I love it i love it i LOVE it! I'm already a fan of one of the poets 'Jasmine Bailey'. She's off the hook, just listening to her for those few seconds was enough for me to become a fan. I WILL be watching this from now on.

Artist... Shanelle Gabriel

Ok so I have to be the BIGGEST Shanelle Gabriel fan...mannn the way she uses similes and metaphors in her poems creates images so vivid i not only hear her, but i see, smell and FEEL every word she says. I got the opportunity to meet her at the Nuyorican one night while I was living in NY...of course she WON the slam that night. Anyways...Just had to share some of her brilliance, She's seriously off the hook. I would LOVE to collab with her one day, poetically, musically, anything!
